Mark Titchner is an internationally recognised artist known particularly for his bold, text-based artworks.
Biography
Mark Titchner (b. 1973, Luton, UK) explores the tensions between the different belief systems that shape contemporary society, whether religious, scientific or political. Working primarily with words and language, much of his recent practice has taken place in the public realm, both in the UK and internationally.
Many of these public artworks have emerged from extended group activities, particularly with young people and in mental health settings.
He lives and works in South London.
Career highlights
Titchner was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2006, participated in the Venice Biennale in 2007 and was Artist in Residence at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto in 2012.
In 2018 he completed the permanent public artwork Me, Here Now at London Bridge Station.
His work is held in numerous public collections, including the British Council, Arts Council, Tate, Government Art Collection, South London Gallery, Manchester Art Gallery, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and Guildhall Art Gallery.
